Disa, tell us a little about your journey at Byggmax.
I’ve been at Byggmax for almost 20 years! So much as happened during that time that it’s never been boring. We’ve remodelled on several occasions and recently conducted a major renovation; there’s a new product range, new colleagues, new customers and the company has grown so much it’s crazy!
It’s fun to reminisce a little; when I began we worked with paper and pen, just imagine … these days most things happen digitally, naturally!
Describe a typical day at work.
As a store employee I do a bit of everything; sales, product advice, forklift driver and I work in the checkout. No days are quite the same, but if I try to describe one it would be like this:
We have a morning routine where we take a look at how the day will be, what our orders and deliveries are. Next I might work in the checkout, then driving a forklift, helping customers, refilling goods, receiving deliverables, stock-taking etc. There’s always something to do! I love my job. I work together with a great bunch of people; they’re like my second family.
What is it that makes you so happy at Byggmax?
It’s a pretty fast pace with things happening; there are many customers, varied tasks and we seldom have to do the same thing twice. We also get to know our customers, which is cool. I think the summer season is especially wonderful, when we can enjoy being both indoors and out. I’m learning a lot all the time and I am constantly developing.
Your favourite value is “fun”; tell us more about what our values mean to you.
I actually took part in their creation just over nine years ago! Up here in Luleå they’re posted visibly to remind us about them. We also include them in our dialogues and follow-ups to make sure they stay relevant. As I mentioned, “funny” is my favourite. I get on well with everyone, and when we live by our values, life is fun and nice.

Quote: I like working at Byggmax because work here is so rewarding.
Anders, tell us a little about your journey at Byggmax.
I began working part-time as a employee in the store in Åkersberga back in 2007 while I was studying. I enjoyed working at Byggmax, so when our store in Länna needed reinforcements, I switched places. In the Länna store I was promoted to the position of Assistant Manager, and later I took over as Store Manager. Next, I began managing the store out on Värmdö, where my duties included training new store managers.
Just over four years ago, there was an opportunity for a position at the Service Office. (The Service Office supports all of our stores and employees with everything needed to run great, attractive stores). I was asked to take on the role of security manager, which I accepted.
Describe a typical day at work.
My day always starts with a cup of coffee. Much of my job concerns supporting store managers with procedures, and also responding to questions from the whole organization and authorities etc. Also, a large part involves developing processes and procedures and implementing them in the organisation.
What is it that makes you so happy at Byggmax?
I like working at Byggmax because work here is so rewarding. The work is very varied and because we are a flat organization, I’ve really been able to participate and influence. My current role right at the centre of things suits me perfectly; I get to meet people all over the Nordics and contribute with my skills. Helping, supporting and training up new leaders is very rewarding!
Your favourite value is “responsibility”; tell us more about what our values mean to you.
Our values reflect how Byggmax is as a company; they help us put what is important to us into words. Responsibility is the value closest to me as it’s directly connected to my role. I also have a lot of responsibility at Byggmax, which is something I enjoy knowing that everything I do affects the rest of the organisation.

Favourite value: 100%
Quote: Working at Byggmax is like winning the lottery!
Farshad, tell us a little about your journey at Byggmax.
I began at Byggmax Ullstämma in 2019. I had just graduated from high school and applied for a summer job as I would continue studying in the autumn. But I had such crazy fun at Byggmax that I accepted a permanent position when the opportunity arose. A while later I got the chance to become Assistant Manager in Ullstämma, which I obviously said yes to!
Since August 2022, I’ve been Store Manager in a new store in Åtvidaberg. It’s a completely new store in a new location, and the position involves overall responsibility with personnel. I’m growing and getting better at my job day by day with Byggmax.
Describe a typical day at work.
Together with my staff, I plan for the day’s events, any deliveries that are expected and the things that must be done. I handle everything from loading timber, unloading trucks, going through pallets, driving forklifts, and taking care of our wonderful customers. The variety of tasks is so rewarding! Working at Byggmax makes me feel as though I’ve won the lottery; I can be out in the yard enjoying the sunshine, stacking planks and hey I’m getting a free workout!
What is it that makes you so happy at Byggmax?
Everyone is like family; we get close and understand each other in ways I haven’t experienced in other places where I’ve worked. We’re all equals, we share the same vision and we all want what’s best for Byggmax. We’re a team, and I’m nothing without my fellow employees. We succeed together, and it’s through our commitment that we continue developing. Best of all, we have a culture where human error is okay, and we learn from our mistakes.
Your favourite value is “100%”; tell us more about what our values mean to you.
I feel that our values reflect us in our stores. They’re all important, but 100% is the one that stands out most for me. It’s a value that embraces so much. By seeing to that everything is 100% e.g., by making sure signs are straight, wrappings removed, and everything is tidy when you’re filling shelves, it makes things better and more pleasant for customers and employees as well.

Lotta, tell us a little about your journey at Byggmax.
My journey is a relatively short one. I boarded the Byggmax train 5 years ago as Regional Manager for Region Väst , i.e. the same role I have today. Since then, things have moved along and together with my store managers, I’ve developed the region in various ways with company-wide responsibilities, and I’ve opened new stores – Byggmax is constantly growing!
Describe a typical day at work.
Working days vary a lot, but for me they begin at 06:00 with my first cup of coffee; I boot up my computer, look at yesterday’s numbers and go through my emails. I switch between visiting my stores, holding physical or virtual meetings and working with strategic planning. To some extent, my days are controlled by store manager schedules as I like to be available for them. Because the stores are spread across a rather large geographical area, my most important tools are my car and the telephone.
What is it that makes you so happy at Byggmax?
Thanks to the passionate commitment and positive attitude of the phenomenal Byggmax staff I meet every day, going to work is truly rewarding. There is always an underlying feeling that what we do, we do together, which I think is absolutely amazing. No two days are ever alike, and all manner of things can pop up. And that’s the way I like it!
Your favourite value is “together”; tell us more about what our values mean to you.
I think our values form the basis of what we do, we revisit them regularly and they truly form the entire company – everyone does what they can with what they have, and we help and support each other in matters large and small. “Together” is my favourite, as it neatly binds the other values together.
